Images & a Trophy From the Greatest Vintage Car Event Ever Held on Long Island
In my opinion, the greatest vintage automobile event ever held on Long Island occurred on October 9, 1954 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the first Vanderbilt Cup Race. The event was organized by Long Island Old Car Club and the Mineola Fair and Industrial Exposition.

Last Friday's mystery photo has been solved. The aerial is looking north towards Curtiss Engineering Corporation and Curtiss Field in Garden City and East Garden City in 1927.

Video: “Chasing a 1908 Simplex Speedcar”
One of my favorite cars on Long Island was the 1908 Simplex Speedcar restored and owned by Walter McCarthy. Several owners and restorations later, the car was sold last summer and was documented on Wayne Carini's "Chasing Classic Cars" on the Velocity channel.
